You’re invited to join in the Campfire Club! In time-honoured fashion we will gather around roaring blazes enveloped in music and entertainment. High spirits will be maintained with good ol’ sing-a-longs, storytelling, special guests and who knows what else. Every fire will be a unique event with a magic concoction of spontaneity, rare talents and the unknown, all drenched in the sepia tones of firelight and tinged with wooded aromas.
Ewan McLennan first emerged onto the UK folk scene with the release of his debut album ‘Rags & Robes’. The recording gained much critical praise, was described by Maverick as ‘a collection of truly captivating songs’, and featured in MOJO’s top ten folk albums of 2010. After an appearance on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show and a televised performance for the Celtic Connections Festival at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, his debut was capped by winning the BBC Folk Award’s Horizon Award in 2011.
Founded by Jorge Glem, Héctor Molina, and Edward Ramírez, C4 Trío is composed of three virtuosos of the cuatro, a typical Venezuelan folk music instrument. The Trío forms part of the Movida Acústica Urbana, or Urban Acoustic Movement, which features instrumental music ensembles such as Los Sinvergüenzas, Kapicúa, enCayapa, Nuevas Almas, and Kamarata Jazz. These groups share an artistic vision: creating music that approaches traditional Venezuelan music with both respect for tradition and an eye toward the future.
The C4 Trio has released two CDs and reached double gold certification in Venezuela as well as being an awarded a Latin Grammy for ”Best Engineered Album”.
Odetta Hartman is a young woman keeping the spirit of Old New York alive. With a heart-stopping voice and wide-ranging instrumental talent – she carries cowboy soul into a new era where country can clash with computers, and bluegrass isn’t afraid of bass.
With her first strictly solo record, 222 [Northern Spy Records] — an experimental, bedroom-produced hybrid of folk, musique concrète and psychedelia — Odetta Hartman and her partner, sound artist and producer Jack Inslee, have created something completely original and unsettling: badass banjos, detuned violins, superstitious stories and eerie soundscapes all give backing to beautiful vocal stylings that range from sensual to spooky.
“Odetta Hartman. The name itself sounds like a spitfire character from an old Western, and her debut album 222 extends that myth, blowing it up until it explodes in a flurry of twisted banjo, warped violin, and eerie field recordings.” – Caitlin White, Stereogum
“Odetta Hartman [at SXSW] was everything I hoped she’d be, mixing rustic instrumentation and a gorgeous voice with beats, effects, samples and a mountain of ideas.” – Stephen Thompson, NPR
**Please Note: The concerts are all outside and all weather affairs thus full waterproofs are highly recommended and warm clothes. A full bar will be stocked with home-made wines, ciders, ales and the odd drop of mead too!
