The Nest Collective and Southbank Centre present an acoustic concert as Folk with Altitude returns to the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden for a third year, providing a summer soundtrack to the London skyline.
Gather on The Southabank’s Roof Garden to hear a minimalist fiddle and vocal performance from Maarja Nuut. As special collaboration with Estonian electronic music composer Hendrik Kaljujärv will see Maarja’s hypnotic acoustic loops met with more edgy electronic sounds.
Maarja Nuut is a fiddler and singer from Northern Estonia. Her music combines traditional dance tunes, songs, and stories with live electronics to create an intricate and layered sound-scape where minimalism and experimental sounds meet the village musical traditions of pre-war Europe.
In the spring of 2013, Nuut released her debut album Soolo, which generated buzz in Europe, including glowing reviews and favourable comparisons to Czech avant garde violinist Iva Bittová. Her second album Une meeles was released in spring 2016.
