Me and My Friends – Album Launch
‘Celebrating the forthcoming release of their second album on internationally acclaimed label Soundway Records, Me and My Friends present an extra-special album launch show.
“Unusual instrumental forces create a sublime fusion that combines pastoral dreaminess with the heat of reggae, highlife and Afrobeat sounds” – Songlines Magazine.
Towering vocal harmonies and unstoppably hip-shaking grooves come together seamlessly with soaring cello and clarinet to create Me and My Friends’ unique blend of sun-drenched, soulful afro-folk.
Bound by their mutual love of the vintage sounds of afrobeat, highlife and roots-reggae, the quintet effortlessly re-invent their influences around the delicate, evocative and instantly recogniseable voice and West African fingerstyle guitar of singer Nick Rasle.
The result is something fresh and unique, marrying the emotional vocal power of early jazz and delta blues with the rhythmic force of Ghana’s golden era and the great Reggae songwriters’
“A life-affirming sound”, Loose Ends, BBC Radio 4.
“They’ve got joy written through them, like a stick of Blackpool rock!” Alex Lester, BBC Radio 2.
With Support from Wonky Logic
Leeds-based musician and producer Wonky Logic, aka Dwayne Kilvington. An upcoming force on the left-field hip-hop scene, Wonky Logic blends soulful electronics with crunk beats.
Owing as much to sample-culture as to his background as a jazz pianist, Wonky Logic sculpts his compositions with expansive space-age synths underpinned by clever bass work and off-kilter drums. His unique production style has a remarkably human feel; electronic soundscapes and beautiful harmonies are driven forward with a post-funk sensibility that grabs your ears and doesn’t let go.
