Violinist Mayah Kadish was born in Rome and grew up in London. At university she studied philosophy at King’s College London, and worked for several years as a translator from French and Italian to English. She obtained her Master’s degree as a violinist from the Royal Academy of Music London, and studied the baroque violin with Enrico Onofri in Sicily.
Mayah plays music from across a huge spectrum: baroque, avant-garde experimental, contemporary classical, folk, pop etc. She has played as soloist in halls such as the Barbican (UK), Lisbon’s Centro Culturel de Belem (PT), Cologne Philharmonie (DE), Lucerne Opera (CH), HKW Berlin (DE), Amsterdam Muziekgebouw (NL), Volksbuehne Berlin (DE), Sadler’s Wells (UK), TSB arena Wellington(NZ), and Wiesbaden State Theatre (DE) amongst others.
Mayah is principal violinist of London-based contemporary group Ensemble x.y, Berlin-based contemporary ensemble s t a r g a z e directed by André de Ridder, and founding member of the baroque trio sonata group La Vaghezza. She has worked extensively as soloist and Concertmaster with the European Union Baroque Orchestra, and has led the early music orchestras Controcorrente (Italy) and La Tempête (France). Mayah writes music and often works collaboratively on making music. Next year she will release her first album, comprising of works written for her over the past year.
