Nature Walk

Nature Walk

25th June 2022 • 2pm • Hengrove Mounds, Bristol

This summer The Nest Collective and Avon Wildlife Trust invite you to explore the most beautiful nature reserves around Bristol.

This guided nature walk will be led by Rachel Lambert.

Rachel Lambert is an award-winning author and respected wild food foraging teacher (since 2007), running courses in Cornwall as Wild Walks Southwest.

Our special guest musicians for this nature walk are Jow.

Jow are a new acoustic duo of James Gow (cello) and Pete Judge (trumpet).

James is an outstanding young multi-instrumentalist who has worked for both Kneehigh and Wise Children theatre companies, and plays with the quartet Eleven Magpies. Pete is the trumpeter with BBC Jazz Award winners Get The Blessing and multi-instrumentalist with Three Cane Whale, amongst many other projects. Expect a set of niche tunes that inhabit a land somewhere between the worlds of jazz, folk and classical chamber music, with intricate arrangements and plenty of room for atmosphere and improvisation.

“Jow have the ability to find the eccentricities of life’s littlest moments and expand them into calm, complex and truly uplifting music”

Hengrove Mounds and Hawkfield Meadow:

Hengrove Mounds is a hidden gem near to the popular Hengrove Playpark. Continue round the path and you’ll discover a wildlife haven that has developed over old landfill site. The raised doughnut shape of the mounds provides a circular walk amongst wildflowers and scrub that provides habitat for many butterflies, bees and insects. Hawkfield meadow is a valuable patch of remnant countryside home to rare bees and many butterflies.

Avon Wildlife Trust is the largest local charity working to protect wildlife and inspire people in the West of England.

They care for 30 nature reserves – from ancient bluebell woods to Iron Age forts, nationally important wetlands which are a haven for rare, wading birds, and wildflower meadows. Their educational and community programmes help people of all ages connect with and benefit from the natural world around them – and take action themselves to help nature’s recovery.

With support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund they’re raising the profile of Bristol City Council Local Wildlife Sites and encouraging everyone to get involved in enjoying and caring for these special wild spaces.
