Americana instrumentation, folksy rootedness and a pop song sensibility; Fritillaries’ music is sometimes upbeat and gnarly, sometimes slow and contemplative, and always original and engaging. Playing together since childhood, they share a unique intimacy and ability to draw audiences into their world. Their debut album – about places and people missed and found in isolation, and things found growing when we dig down into spaces the light doesn’t reach – will be released in summer 2022 on Pear O’ Legs Records.
The duo have been playing music together since 2013 when they were 16. In 2019, they performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall, toured Australia and were finalists in ‘Purbeck Rising’. In 2021 they played sold out shows in London (Green Note), Bristol (Southbank) and Birmingham (Kitchen Garden Cafe); were played on BBC 6 Music and announced their eponymous debut album with Pear O’ Legs Records.
Their debut album draws on music from the transatlantic folk canon and the American songbook and storytelling traditions. Andrew Marlin’s Witching Hour and Fable & Fire were on hard rotation around the recording session, and the duo hoped to capture something of their intuition and sense of movement. This allowed the duo to flex new musical muscles, whilst also leaning back into the familiar influences of Bob Dylan and Gillian Welch.

‘A genuine joy live … bright, light and effortlessly gorgeous. Hannah and Gabriel pull off something magical every time… A real joy to watch, without fail’ – Folkroom Records
