A versatile and collaborative cellist, Maddie has gained a reputation on the pop and alternative/contemporary music scene for her work both in the studio and live on tour, with artists such as Nicki Wells, Penelope Trappes, Anchorsong, and the Poet Laureate Simon Armitage (with his new band LYR).
Maddie performs with Anna Meredith as a cellist and backing vocalist, and worked closely with Anna on her second studio album FIBS, which was shortlisted for the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize, and features a track for solo cello and electronics called ‘moonmoons’. The recording has since been made into an Augmented Reality App and is featured on the Netflix series Living With Yourself, starring Paul Rudd.
In 2014 Maddie co-founded Parallax Orchestra, bringing orchestral performance to bands such as Bring Me The Horizon and Alter Bridge, as well as the gaming giants Bethesda Studios and most recently the lighting and chair designer Lee Broom. She has a passion for bringing together the worlds of classical and contemporary, combining pop and improvisation and mixing the alternative with the familiar.
Aside from her work with bands, Maddie performs in London theatres such as Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Bridge Theatre, and collaborates closely with composers such as Isobel Waller-Bridge and Alex Baranowski.
