You Are Wolf (vocalist/composer Kerry Andrew, with multi-instrumentalist Sam Hall and percussionist Peter Ashwell) presents folk songs and lore with unusual, electronica-tinged arrangements. Their second album, KELD, explores the theme of freshwater, with traditional and original songs about banshees and water sprites, vengeful rivers and wild swimming. It was fRoots’ Editor’s Choice! Album of the Year 2018 and in the Guardian’s Top Ten Folk Albums 2018.
Kerry’s debut novel, Swansong, based on a folk ballad, was published by in 2018. Kerry’s second novel, SKIN, inspired by water-folklore, was published in February 2021. Kerry was shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award 2018.
You Are Wolf is a regular on Radio 3’s The Verb and performed her debut short story with music on BBC Radio 4’s Stories From Songwriters series. Kerry visited China for five weeks in 2016 as a British Council Musician in Residence, touring as You Are Wolf and creating new rock/traditional songs based on foxes in folklore.
Elsewhere Kerry Andrew is a composer of experimental vocal music and choral music, and the winner of four British Composer Awards. Kerry has written for The Guardian and is an occasional presenter on BBC Radio 3.
