One of folk music’s most pre-eminent modern voices, Fay Hield, headlines our opening night, with support from the ethereal-voiced Lewis Barfoot.
Fay Hield
A singer who seems to have been born knowing how to carry a tune, but with the rarer gift of knowing how to go straight to the heart of a song. Fay’s first two solo albums, Looking Glass (2010) and Orfeo (2012), were released by prestigious folk label Topic Records. They won Fay many accolades as well as a nomination for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Fay’s choice of material and the delivery of it, reflect a rare sensitivity and appreciation of the tradition whilst remaining naturalistic and highly distinctive.
Lewis Barfoot
Half Irish, half English Lewis works with an uncomplicated loveliness of sound, combining her ethereal vocals and gifted storytelling with original compositions and reinventions of traditional songs from Ireland and the UK.
Frequently compared to the likes of Ane Brun and Joni Mitchell, her first EP Catch Me was described by Irish Radio International as “Delicious music: A massage of the heart, a whisper to the soul”. Her debut album Glenaphuca will be released in March 2021.
