Discover the wild nature on your doorstep on this guided nature walk.
These hidden gems are at the forefront of Avon’s work protecting Bristol’s wildlife and supporting habitat regeneration. In this unique experience you will learn from a leading nature expert about these biodiverse havens, and then enjoy improvised performances from special guest musicians. As we walk we will take several moments en route to stop, learn and reflect on the environment around us.
Delve into the wild – rekindle your connections with nature through song and story.
This guided nature walk will be led by Seed Sistas.
Over decades of study and clinical practice in herbal medicine, the Seed Sistas have developed their their own style and structure of herbalism which encompasses many diverse art forms; carefully listening to and being guided by the voices of the plants. The plants unearth a forgotten language accessible through the practice of Sensory Herbalism. One of their main focuses is sharing Sensory Herbalism in order to Cultivate Change through Eco-Activism with Community Medicine Garden Projects.
Our special guest musician for this nature walk is Arran Glass.
Arran Glass is a British composer, songwriter, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist with a background in theatre making and live performance. Arran’s music has been used on television on BBC’s Countryfile and his songs for adverts on ITV and Channel 4.
Lawrence Weston Moor:
Between the Lawrence Weston and the M5 lies a little slice of history. Remnant countryside criss-crossed by rhines that are home to Bristol’s most endangered species, the water vole. Tune out of the roar of the motorway and you can forget all about the city, enjoying impressive old oak trees, ponds and if you’re lucky the sight of a deer bounding through the long grass.
Avon Wildlife Trust is the largest local charity working to protect wildlife and inspire people in the West of England.
They care for 30 nature reserves – from ancient bluebell woods to Iron Age forts, nationally important wetlands which are a haven for rare, wading birds, and wildflower meadows. Their educational and community programmes help people of all ages connect with and benefit from the natural world around them – and take action themselves to help nature’s recovery.
With support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund they’re raising the profile of Bristol City Council Local Wildlife Sites and encouraging everyone to get involved in enjoying and caring for these special wild spaces.
