Nature Walk

Nature Walk

6th June 2022 • 2pm • Stockwood Open Space, Bristol

This summer The Nest Collective and Avon Wildlife Trust invite you to explore the most beautiful nature reserves around Bristol.

This guided nature walk will be led by Chris Park.

Chris is an entertaining and knowledgeable speaker on all things ancient and he will have you enthralled with tales of our ancient history and will also have artefacts for you to see and touch. He runs Acorn Education – an organisation dedicated to integrating nature and education, and providing experiential learning for all of the senses; seeking to improve our connections to the natural environment and gain a greater awareness, a sense of place, a sense of history, roots and culture, arts, crafts, skills and knowledge.

Our special guest musicians for this nature walk are Francesca Simmons and Alex Vann.

Francesca/Madame Ceski is a Welsh performer-composer based in Bristol. She works across theatre & live performing blending folk & experimental, her music having been performed on Late Junction, Radio 6, BBC Radio Wales & Radio Cymru.

Alex is a versatile musician & composer, and a key member of both Three Cane Whale and Spiro (Real World Records). He has also worked extensively in theatre with companies Kneehigh, Travelling Light & Royal Shakespeare Company.

Together this acoustic duo of violin & mandolin weave around traditional folk tunes of the British Isles, combined with improvisation.

Stockwood Open Space:

One of the largest patches of green space in Bristol, Stockwood Open Space boasts ancient woodland, beautiful wildflower meadows, ponds and a large orchard brimming with apples in the autumn. An excellent place to go exploring in the winter where you can forage for winter berries, explore hidden paths, and keep an eye out for the deer that are often spotted bounding across the meadows.

Avon Wildlife Trust is the largest local charity working to protect wildlife and inspire people in the West of England.

They care for 30 nature reserves – from ancient bluebell woods to Iron Age forts, nationally important wetlands which are a haven for rare, wading birds, and wildflower meadows. Their educational and community programmes help people of all ages connect with and benefit from the natural world around them – and take action themselves to help nature’s recovery.

With support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund they’re raising the profile of Bristol City Council Local Wildlife Sites and encouraging everyone to get involved in enjoying and caring for these special wild spaces.
