Campfire Club: Bonfire Night

Campfire Club: Bonfire Night

Campfire Club: Bonfire Night

5th November 2022 • 6:30pm • Master Shipwright’s Palace, London

Join us for an alternative Bonfire Night celebration, in the gardens of a stunning hidden riverside palace.

This Bonfire Night gathering will reignite & reflect on the importance of dissent in society on this meaningful date, inviting us to consider its power as a shaper of community, politics, history, the future.

The evening is offered as a restoration of the art of ‘protest’ in an old display of political will-bearing. In a time of suppression of the peoples’ voice, we will call upon Bonfire Night to be reinstated as a space for communities to find their voice and celebrate their strength in unity.

This is how music and story can ignite the fire inside us all.

This event will feature live music from Dizraeli.

Poet, producer, firestarter. Songwriter-MC, multi instrumentalist-raconteur… Dizraeli is a genre of his own.
He’s collaborated with artists as diverse as Kae Tempest, Jam Baxter and Eliza Carthy in his explorations of the crossover between hiphop, folk, bass music and all between.
His unswerving devotion to pushing the boundaries of lyricism and musical form has earned him a bona fide cult status among those who know, and the raw honesty and humour he brings to his writings on his own mental health, sexuality and the liberation of the human spirit has drawn people together of all shades and ages around his work.

This event will also feature storytelling from the amazing Jan Blake.

Jan Blake has been performing worldwide for over twenty-five years. Specialising in stories from Africa, the Caribbean, and Arabia, she has a well-earned reputation for dynamic and generous storytelling.

‘The people on earth need heat & warmth, in the form of fire, but none are brave enough to ascend to the heavens to procure it, except for Osun, Goddess of Beauty, for which must pays a high price.’

Drawing on the vast array of myths form the Yoruba tradition, Jan will share this and other tales of human’s fascination with fire.

This event will be hosted by the wonderful bard Chris Park.

Chris’ work is wide and varied, from arts and craft, ancient technologies, experimental archaeology and educational projects to eco-building, professional storytelling, folk music and raising the awareness of the heritage of beekeeping.

Campfire Club audiences say:

“Getting to hear live music after so long was deeply emotional and the feeling of collective spirit (especially now) was really powerful.”

“The sun setting over the garden and Thames and the amazing overall relaxed (yet ‘safe’) ambience of the event. Very moving to finally be at a live gig.”

“Walking into a wonderland of nature with beautiful music and people, it made me feel wonderfully elated.”

“The atmosphere was incredible, I knew I would love the music but I loved the atmosphere just as much.”
