SONOROUS
Currently Tiff is working on 2 collaborations;
Inuit Myth with Benjin
This was performed as part of the open ceremony on the Sankofa Stage at Shambala Festival. Using cello, nyckelharpa and a loop station, Benjin created a stunning and haunting sound world in which this bizarre and beautiful tale took place. After the performance many people came up to us crying, moved by the power of the story, and the way the music had enabled them to connect with it on such a deep level.
As part of this performance we also recorded the audience making the sound of the sea prior to the telling of the story. When the protagonist of the tale entered the sea, Benjin fed this recording into the loop station. The look of mystified surprise on peoples faces when they heard themselves as part of the story was magical.
Greek myth with Alkanna Greaca
Alkanna Greaca is a vocal trio blending raw folk traditions from the Balkans, Mediterranean, and Black Sea with free improvisation and expansive soundscapes. They will bring their extraordinary vocal power to bring a Greek myth very much alive. This is a distillation of the transcendental power of voices and myth combined. This is a new collaboration that we are hoping to premier at Magpie’s Nest. 2 voices and a loop station.
Tiff Wear is a professional improviser and storyteller. He works as a Giggle Doctor for Theodora Children's Charity, doing child-led play in hospitals, and is a humanitarian clown. His work focuses on the transportative power of story, and joy and spontaneity of co-creation. He is currently doing a 10 month somatic mythology training, and has taken courses with storytellers such as Martin Shaw and Josh Schrei. Tiff also works as a nature immersion facilitator.
What does it feel like to listen with your body? Using beautiful, transcendental music to disarm the listener, storyteller and clown Tiff Wear will open audiences up to the powerful dynamics that move inside old stories.
Sonorous is a project that uses the magic of music to open the listener to the power of story. If we come to a story cold, we listen with our minds. The music is the heat that melts us, and enables the story to infuse deep within us.
Tiff works with old stories and myths that move in wild and unruly ways. Stories that lurch unexpectedly, or slowly dissolve into nothing. These tales are carefully paired with musicians that can provide the appropriate sonic container and heat to cook the story, and the audience along with it. It is about curating the right circumstances for people to be most receptive to stories and the energies within them.
