Sousou & Maher Cissoko — an award-winning duo from Sweden and Senegal — have chosen a life together led by music, sharing a sound that uplifts, heals, and connects audiences across more than 30 countries.

Sousou, a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Skåne, Sweden, followed her calling to West Africa, where she learned the kora from masters in Gambia, Mali, and Senegal, the instrument that would later unite her path with Maher’s.

Maher, a griot, kora player and percussionist by birth, carries the timeless voice of the modern-day griot beyond borders, honoring his heritage while inviting the world to listen, reflect and move. Together they weave the spirit of the griot tradition with their own creative expression. Their music blends the kora’s resonance with soulful vocals and a rhythmic dance of influences from mbalax, reggae, folk and jazz, offering a message of unity and joy.
